Helping Art curators stream line their workflow with VR and real time tools

Guggenheim museum wanted to explore how VR and Unreal could improve their art curating workflow to make exhibitions in their galleries.

The vision was to develop a Web3D-based exhibition planning tool that enables art curators to visualize, arrange, and simulate exhibitions in the Guggenheim Museum (or similar architectural spaces). This tool will address the limitations of physical scale models by providing an interactive, real-time 3D environment for curators to plan, experiment, and collaborate.

Art curator workflow

During a phone call with the art curators, the team found out the architects and curators make scale model of exhibition spaces and the artwork at 1:100, print this out. Some contemporary exhibitions at the Guggenheim involve massive sculptures, immersive video works, or floor-based installations that interact with the unique architecture.
A physical scale model may not accurately reflect how a massive piece will feel in the space, which is why they wanted to explore what 3D visualisation tools and VR could do for them.
