Improving The Experience Of Condition Reporting For Conservators
The Imperial War Museum Duxford holds Britain’s largest aviation collection of military vehicles, aircrafts and naval vessels. A team of IWM conservators work on restoration projects for the museum’s exhibition in Duxford. For decades, they have been documenting their conservation process on paper, which is very time consuming. Looking to move their current paper documentation system onto the Adlib collection management system, IWM wanted new ways to improve their current system to suit the way conservators work daily in the hanger and office.

Mapping The User Journey Of The Workflow
I coded the data from the interviews to gain key insights in order to map out the user journey. The map shows the whole conservation project work flow from beginning to end. Pain points, barriers and quotes were also highlighted in the user journey map. A persona was also created with key discoveries about the conservator’s job and restoration projects they do.

Design & Prototype

Outcomes
A set of designs for a responsive archive tool accessible across all device types which improved the work flow for conservators. This gave them the mobile flexibility to work both in the hanger and in the office.
